AIR TOUR
Destination Avalon Air Tour will be a three day event over-flying some of Victoria’s most scenic country and culminating in a stream arrival at Avalon International Airport in time for Airshow 2009. Participants fly into Shepparton over the weekend of 7-8th March and enjoy local area hospitality, including a welcome dinner and information night on Sunday, prior to starting the tour.

Once again, The Great Air Rally Inc. organisation is organising the Destination Avalon Air Tour for us. Participants joining from the north and west are encouraged to assemble at Narromine NSW (North) and Ballarat (Vic.) on Friday 6th March and, after overnighting at those locations, proceed to Shepparton for The Great Australian Air Rally before continuing to Avalon.

Day 1 – Monday 9th March 2009
On Monday morning the Air Tour gets underway flying south to Wangaratta for lunch then cruises down the Murray to the historic river town of Echuca and a night with the locals.

Day 2 – Tuesday 10th March
On Tuesday its off to Bendigo to visit a major gold mining city and lunch then on to Stawell for the evening in the hills.

Day 3 – Wednesday 11th March
From Stawell we’ll track via the towering peaks and valleys of the Grampians National Park then descend into Warrnambool for a gourmet seafood lunch.  From now on its coastal all the way skirting the famous Shipwreck and Surf Coast, over-flying the Eleven Apostles and Cape Otway, tracking along the Great Ocean Road to Port Phillip Bay heads and into the Australian International Airshow at Avalon.  A day of sight seeing to remember!

REGATTA
Around The Bays Air Regatta is an aviation sporting event conducted in association with the Australian International Airshow 2009 on Thursday 12th March 2009.

The Regatta is for enthusiasts to share the experience and challenge of competing, socializing and enjoying the company of your fellow aviators. It takes the form of an observation trial and a test of pilot’s airmanship and aviation skills The route will take you over the picturesque Melbourne bays returning to Avalon for a flight of about 1.5 hours. The Regatta is not a race: it is a fun event in a busy and exciting atmosphere.
