TRAVEL TO THE AIRSHOW
Avalon Airport is situated on the Princess Freeway, between Melbourne and Geelong.  The site is well marked and access is easy.

BY CAR

  • From Melbourne
    Avalon is about 55kms along the Princes Freeway from the West Gate Bridge.
  • From Tullamarine Airport
    Take the Tullamarine Freeway to the Western Ring Road and then travel west along the Princes Freeway towards Geelong.
  • From Geelong
    Avalon is about 18kms along the Princes Freeway. Signs will direct you to the turn off and ample parking is available.

BY BUS

From Melbourne SITA will have a Coach Service departing Southern Cross Station (bus bays). www.sitacoaches.com.au Timetable will be available later in the year.

COMING BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
By Train

Special VLine rail services will operate from Melbourne and Geelong to Lara Station.  A shuttle bus service will connect to the Airshow site. Additional information will be coming soon.

BY AIR

Jetstar operate regular scheduled flights into Avalon.

An internal transport service will be available to carry passengers from the Avalon Terminal to the Airshow Entrance.

For those passengers arriving at Tullamarine Airport there is no direct service to Avalon Airport. Patrons will need to catch an airport bus from Tullamarine to either Geelong or Southern Cross Station in Melbourne. These services are provided by Gull Bus (Tullamarine – Geelong – www.gull.com.au for SITA Coaches (Tullamarine-Melbourne) or Melbourne to Avalon Airport www.sitacoaches.com.au

Public Days:
For those patrons coming from Melbourne, you can catch a VLine train from Southern Cross Station (Spencer Street) to Lara Station. A free shuttle bus operates from Lara Station to the Airshow Entrance.

CHARTER AIRCRAFT
Due to the additional numbers of scheduled Regular Passenger Transport aircraft and the large number of aircraft on static display to support the two main themes of the Airshow, Charter Operations to Avalon Airport will be severely restricted between 1- 6 March 2011. Please refer to our website

GENERAL AVIATION AND RECREATIONAL AIRCRAFT
All General Aviation and Recreational Aircraft visitors to Avalon 2011 will operate from Avalon East only – please refer to the Avalon East page for details.

ACCOMMODATION
The events calendar in March is a busy time with several major sporting and cultural events attracting both interstate and international visitors to Victoria.

The ever stylish city of Melbourne has ample world class accommodation available to suit all budgets and location needs. Avalon Airport is just a short drive along the Princes Freeway or a comfortable train ride from Southern Cross Station (Spencer Street). www.visitmelbourne.com

However, because it is a busy month, we encourage you to make your accommodation booking as soon as possible.

Of course many other accommodation options exist outside of central Melbourne, including many at provincial cities less than an hour’s drive from the Airshow site at Avalon.

GEELONG

Airshow host city Geelong is just 20 minutes by road from Avalon Airport and is the ideal location for anyone requiring accommodation with quick and easy access to the Airshow site.

Geelong is Victoria’s largest provincial city and many of its fine accommodation options are situated overlooking beautiful Corio Bay.
The city boasts a vibrant restaurant and retail precinct.

Geelong is the gateway to the Surf and Shipwreck Coasts and is also home to a number of world-class wineries and vinyaerds.

BALLARAT

Victoria’s historic gold city of Ballarat boasts a wide range of accommodation options and a host of world class restaurants.

It is situated 80 kilometres north west of Avalon, about one hour by car.

Ballarat was the hub of the Victorian gold rushes of the 1850s and its wide avenues and opulent public buildings reflect the extravagance and wealth of the period.

THE BELLARINE PENINSULA

This magnificent peninsula is home to a number of bayside villages and towns, the largest being Queenscliff.

A number of superb guest houses, hotels and boutique bed and breakfast options are situated within the precincts of this beautiful and historic town.

Queenscliff proudly displays its maritime heritage and has a fine array of restaurants, bars a cafes.

Queenscliff is east of Geelong, about 50 minutes by car from the Airshow site at Avalon.

The Surf Coast resort town of Torquay lies less than an hour’s drive south–west of Avalon.

This popular and picturesque town offers quality accommodation at a number of hotels, motels and serviced apartments.

Each summer and autumn nearby Bell’s Beach and Jan Juc become a Mecca for surfing enthusiasts from throughout the world.

The beautiful resort town of Lorne is about 90 minutes drive from the Airshow site at Avalon. It boasts a large number of excellent accommodation options and numerous bars and restaurants.

The drive into Lorne takes one along the Great Ocean Road and past some of the most magnificent coastal scenery in the world.

CAMPSITE
A special airshow campsite in nearby Lara provides a place to stay during the Airshow.

Bring your own tent, caravan or campervan and enjoy the convenience of our free shuttle bus service to and from the Airshow site. The campsite will be open from Friday 6 March to Monday 16 March 2009.

All sites at the Airshow are unpowered and the use of BBQs, gas lanterns, generators and naked flame is not permitted. We can cater for tents, caravans or campervans and showers, toilets and catering facilities are also provided for your convenience.
